The smile of a child when they learn something new is inspiring and contagious. When one makes a conscious choice to dedicate one’s time, talent, and treasure to a worthy cause, like public education, the impact effects thousands of children every day. This is evident by the transformation of how our children live, learn, and grow, along with the satisfaction and gratitude for an opportunity to make those children smile. This is Alan Baseman’s perspective. Alan serves as Partner and 17-year professional at Comiter, Singer, Baseman and Braun, LLP as well as engaged member of the Board of Directions for the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County. Alan’s passion for and commitment to public education is personal as well as professional, “My wife, mother, mother-in-law, and I have all been teachers. My first job after college was as a permanent substitute teaching Algebra, which really taught me how hard a job it is. The foundation of our country is built on free, compulsory education; and I believe that if we are going to make it compulsory, we had better make it great, too.”
Along with his dedicated board service, Alan also volunteers his time and talent for numerous Foundation projects, which include the distribution of school supplies through Red Apple Supplies and review of legal documents, along with supporting events, as team captain of a successful fundraising team for the Heroes for Education 5K and member of the planning committee for the GoTeach! Classroom Grant Awards. As a member of the Programs and Grants Committee, Alan serves as a reviewer of GoTeach! Classroom Grants, whereby funds are awarded to teachers to support classroom innovation. Alan proudly states, “My most satisfying experiences as Board Member have been seeing the genuine enthusiasm and gratitude expressed by the recipients of the GoTeach! Classroom Grant Awards each year. “
What also puts a smile on Alan’s face is his drive to share simple, yet effective, ways to support public education through everyday transactions. Alan utilizes Amazon Smile as a means to make contributions to the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County with every purchase made, and through the purchase of the “Support Education” license plate, where $20 of every purchase/renewal stays local and supports the Education Foundation programs, such as the GoTeach! Classroom Grants. He also generously funds other education related projects, like “Pine Jog Hydroponic and Ground Gardens” at Pine Jog Elementary School through the Find It Fund It platform.
With decades of experience in law, Alan leads Comiter, Singer, Baseman and Braun, LLP. This Palm Beach County based, award-winning Florida law firm that provides estate planning services throughout the state of Florida. Supporting the community is embedded in the company culture and evidenced through various board seats and committee involvement by its team, including Jewish Family Services, Jewish Federation of Palm Beach County, Palm Beach Tax Institute, special adviser to City of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida Bar Tax Section, The Learning Center at the Els Center of Excellence, Inc., Florida Association of Women Lawyers, Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County. Alan has proudly served as a board member for the Education Foundation for six years and is an example of his and the firm’s commitment to support public education in Palm Beach County.
Whether he is sharing counsel during board meetings or supporting education during everyday transactions using Amazon Smile, Alan Baseman knows the smile of a child is inspiring and contagious, and that perspective will change the world.
