The Education Foundation proudly partnered with the School District of Palm Beach County to recognize exceptional educational leaders during a virtual celebration on Thursday, January 28, 2021. While the eight nominees sat socially distanced with masks in The Education Network building, several hundred viewers tuned in through various streaming channels.
Presented by Comcast, this free event connected the business community to support education and virtually applaud the achievements of each nominee. Superintendent Dr. Donald E. Fennoy, II announced each winner live as the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County’s President & CEO, James S. Gavrilos, emceed the ceremony.
Principal Capitano of Don Estridge High Tech Middle School represented the South Region and was named Principal of the Year. In her role, Principal Capitano established mentoring programs which helped increase test scores. She is dedicated to excellence in the classroom and providing opportunities for students in academics, athletics and extracurricular activities. Knowing the importance of technology, she collaborated with local business partners to provide additional resources for students, and last year she won the Florida Council of Instructional Technology Innovative Principal of the Year award. Capitano will now represent Palm Beach County as a candidate for the Principal of the Year title for the state of Florida.
Assistant Principal of the Year Justin Arnone, represented the Central Region and his team at Palm Beach Central High School. Assistant Principal Arnone’s colleagues say he has an infectious positive energy that yields unwavering respect from the teachers, staff and students he serves. Referred to by his principal an innovative instructional leader, Mr. Arnone’s been instrumental in the school’s increased test scores and the graduation rate. Arnone made history as he becomes the first-ever Assistant Principal of the Year at The School District of Palm Beach County.
