“One out of five children in Palm Beach County lives under the poverty level,” said Gavrilos. “In a school district our size, that’s 40,000 children. That is why our Board member Meredith Trim set up Red Apple Supplies eight years ago. With the added space in this new building, we will make sure that every child in our district - all 180,000 – have the tools, the school supplies and the teachers they need to have a world-class, first-class education.”

The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County celebrated another milestone for its $15 million “Brick by Brick, Mind by Mind” capital campaign. On May 1, 2024, the Education Foundation and Proctor Construction hosted a Topping Out celebration at the Foundation’s future home at 1515 Barton Road, Lake Worth Beach. The event commemorated the final beam placement as construction crews complete one significant phase of exterior construction, before moving to the interior phase. The new 32,000 sq. ft. innovation hub is set to be completed in December 2024.
The new facility will help ensure high-quality public education by providing equity and access to resources and innovative programming for students and teachers in Palm Beach County. The new building also includes a training facility, offering professional development for teachers and supporting over 100 programs, including the expansion of Red Apple Supplies – the Foundation’s signature program that equips teachers with FREE essential resources for their classrooms.
During the celebration, the Education Foundation’s loyal donors, leadership and business supporters toured the progress inside the building and left their mark by signing an interior wall of the building. In addition, a forklift was used to hoist a tree on top of the building, an age-old tradition that honors the accomplishments of the construction crew and celebrates a building milestone.
