“This program has helped ignite my interest in computers and cybersecurity, and I am seriously so grateful that it exists and that I have been able to participate. I went from not even caring about computers in eighth grade to now having a deep interest and wanting to pursue a career in cybersecurity.”
Benjamin
Junior, Santaluces High School
The success of the Santaluces Community High School‘s Cybersecurity Academy is truly remarkable. Thanks to the generous funding received from The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation through the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County in 2020, the program has just completed its fourth year of operation, and the impact is evident. This summer, five exceptional students from the Academy had the opportunity to participate in a 30-hour paid internship with the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County. These students seized the opportunity to gain real-world experience and apply their knowledge in a professional setting. Their dedication and enthusiasm served as a testament to the quality of education and preparation they received from the Cybersecurity Academy. As they embark on this new chapter, we are proud to see how they are shaping their future and contributing to the ever-changing field of cybersecurity.
Congratulations to the following Santaluces students: Jonathan Rodriquez, C/O 2024 Salutatorian who has enrolled in Washington University in St. Louis, MO, to pursue degrees in computer science and computer engineering; Dominick Dabecco, C/O 2024 graduate who has enrolled at Florida Atlantic University; and to rising seniors Benjamin Saravia, Guillermo Luis Delgado Laboy, and Daniyal Azfar for doing an outstanding job as interns. During their internship, the students evaluated and made strategic recommendations and provided training and technical support to the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County’s staff to strengthen the Foundation’s cybersecurity. The interns’ culminating activity was a presentation to Education Foundation staff and business leaders, which included recommendations and strategies for prevention and defending against attacks.
The Cybersecurity Academy serves as a testament to the transformative power of public education. By providing students with essential technical knowledge and skills, the program prepares them for success, enabling them to graduate with the opportunity to earn up to 16 industry certifications. Congratulations to both Dr. Williams, Principal and Mr. Angelo Angione, Cybersecurity Academy Instructor at Santaluces Community High School for their leadership and support of this program over the past 4 years. Thank you for joining us in celebrating the exceptional achievements of these students and the profound impact of the Cybersecurity Academy. Supporting high-quality public education is crucial for shaping the future of our students, who are the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.
The Education Foundation would like to say a special thank you to the Frederick A. Deluca Foundation for their support of this amazing program.
