The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County welcomed top educators and community partners to the Boynton Beach Arts & Cultural Center on Thursday, October 13, 2022, to celebrate the 2022-2023 GoTeach! Classroom Grant Awards which honored teachers who collectively received $130,593.50 in grant funding to support their innovative classroom projects that will inspire students, grade levels, and schools through the School District of Palm Beach County. It was a night for educators and innovators. A night to thank Palm Beach County teachers for their tremendous dedication to our students, and to celebrate the innovation and creativity they bring to the classroom.
“Every year I am amazed at the creativity, innovative spirit, and dedication of our palm beach county public school teachers, your ability to find new and creative ways to stimulate young minds simply defies description. Because of you, someone can write their name or read their favorite book, because of you someone is in college, speaking a foreign language….living a physically fit life, someone right now is a kinder better person, because of you,” Education Foundation of Palm Beach County President/CEO James Gavrilos said to the audience of 120+ attendees in-person during Thursday’s awards celebration.
GoTeach! Classroom Grant Awards fund individual teacher projects up to $1,000 and team projects up to $1,500 which are made possible due to the State of Florida’s School District Education Foundation Matching Grant Program through the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations and the local business and philanthropic community. For the second consecutive year, The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation supported the program through a generous grant contribution funding GoTeach and GoReach! High Impact Grant Awards of up to $3,000. Judith Fletcher, Grants Manager, shared a heartfelt message to the teachers, “The DeLuca Foundation is proud to support the Education Foundation’s GoTeach! Classroom Grants program. It is so critical, especially now, to support the dedicated teachers who make a huge impact on our students in Palm Beach County. The Awards program was a success and I truly hope that the teachers felt appreciated, because they ARE.”
The Foundation also awarded 5 GoTeach STEM! Innovation Awards and 2 GoTeach FINLIT! Innovation Awards which were made possible for the second consecutive year through a generous grant contribution from the Stiles-Nicholson Foundation. David Nicholson, Chairman and Founder said when asked about the importance of supporting classroom innovation and teachers, “teachers are vital to inspire our future leaders and show them the bridge between textbooks and that fourth “R” … Reality. We support our kids by supporting our teachers!” Both grant awards funded teacher projects of $5,000 with 80% of the program budget expected to cover the cost of program implementation and 20% being awarded to the teacher or split between a team of teachers who partnered to create and implement the program.
“The Education Foundation is humbled by what our teachers do every day in the classroom for our children,” said Jim Moore, Education Foundation Board Chair and executive with UnitedHealthcare. “Each year we are amazed at the new and innovative ideas our teachers are bringing into the classroom for our children. We are honored to support the GoTeach! Classroom Grant Awards that bring together the School Board, district staff, and our generous community and business partners to recognize some of these amazing teachers and fund their fantastic projects to help our students excel.
