"Mentoring and speaking to young teens is one of my favorite and most cherished things to do in life. Here at LexisNexis Risk Solutions, working and volunteering with youth programs is a huge part of the culture. I often see teens who limit themselves because of self-doubt, who struggle because of their circumstances, and who have yet to discover the different aspects of who they will one day become. The Summer Career Exposure Program eliminates these barriers to help these future leaders rise to their fullest potential. I want to give these bright students some of the tools they will need to take their career to the next level."

For the past three years, LexisNexis Risk Solutions has held the Summer Career Exposure program, inviting students to participate in a transformative three-day workshop. This year, 18 students from diverse backgrounds were selected, many of whom had never experienced professional business environments. Among them were five students from Santaluces Community High School’s Cybersecurity program.
On the first day, the focus was on laying a solid foundation. Students engaged in a career assessment to identify their interests and skill sets. “It was refreshing to see so many students with strong foundations and the ability to articulate their intended career path,” said Monica Garrett, Community Relations Director. The st udents were then equipped with practical skills for their future careers. They explored potential majors and career paths, participated in a resume review, honed their interview skills, developed personal branding, and practiced their elevator pitches. The day concluded with information about LinkedIn. Students were given tools to create professional profiles, ensuring they were well-prepared to enter the workforce.
The second day began with a mini career fair, illustrating the variety of roles within a company. Departments hosted tables to explain their functions at LexisNexis Risk Solutions. Students learned about sales, project and product management, finance, legal, technology, and cybersecurity, highlighting the diversity of careers available within a corporation. The day ended with a career panel where employees shared their backgrounds and journeys. Students heard firsthand accounts of the paths from high school to college to career, and the panel emphasized the importance of certificate programs alongside degrees in their educational journeys.
Day three commenced with an essential exercise in financial literacy. Each student participated in a budgeting activity, gaining insight into the importance of personal finance. The latter part of the day focused on cybersecurity basics. Students were challenged with a game to test their skills and understanding in this critical field.
The program concluded with a ceremony where each student received a certificate, a gift bag, and a laptop. This marked the end of an enlightening and empowering three-day experience, equipping the students with knowledge and skills to pave their way toward successful careers.
Thanks, LexisNexis Risk Solutions, for supporting our students and impacting their futures greatly!
